It only moves when you look. A corn maze after closing. You carry a lantern, and it points the way you walk. Somewhere in the corn stands a scarecrow, and it moves only while your light is on it. Look away and it is still. Keep the light on it and it walks to you. The candles left burning in the corn are what keep your lantern lit, and they burn close to the scarecrow. Every candle is a walk toward it: come in from the side, with the corn between you, or with it at your back. Take candles in a row without lighting it and they build a chain, and the chain is nearly the whole score. One look breaks it. A brush of light across it is a warning, and you hear it. The corn shifts as you gather. Each new maze is denser and the scarecrow faster. From the third, a pale one walks where the first one walked, a step behind, and your light does nothing to that one. From the fifth, candles burn out if you leave them. From the sixth, the night gets late and your lantern throws wider, so it finds the scarecrow sooner. Let the lantern go out and it walks to you in the dark, until you reach a candle and relight. Three ways in. Walk the maze, with the field by moonlight. New Moon, opened at 50 candles: no moon at all, only your lantern, so the only way to find the scarecrow is to look at it. And the Daily Maze: one maze for everyone that day, one try. When it catches you, its face fills the screen. The end card says what happened in one line, and one more press starts again. It plays on a phone held sideways: touch and drag anywhere, and a stick appears under your thumb. On a keyboard, arrows or WASD; a gamepad works too. Everything plays signed out; only the leaderboard needs an account, and the game says so in plain words.
